Dear CPS Students and Guardians,

We hope this email finds you well and excited about the positive start we've had to the new school year! We are delighted to see so many enthusiastic faces in our classrooms and feel the energy of a vibrant school community.

Acknowledging Our Strong Start:

We want to take a moment to recognize our students and their dedication to showing up, and getting a strong start to the new year. We have already seen some credits earned and some exciting activities and accomplishments. The staff has been excited to see everyone and to join with our students to continue to form a more successful school. If you don't already follow us on Facebook and Instagram, please do to see some of what we are up to.

Our Shared Work this Year:

Our goal as staff this year is to create trauma-informed, equitable, and consistent disciplinary policies and procedures. We all, as humans, have challenges and obstacles to overcome. We will work to refine our practices to help students overcome those barriers they face to become successful in life. We want student voice in this process as well as parents and guardians.

Student Voice in 1st period:

Part of how we want to cocreate our school with students is 1st period. At the beginning of 1st period each day, we meet in the cafe all together. Usually, this is just a brief time of announcements or celebrations, sometimes an inspiring guest. Then we will move to advisory classes. In advisory, our goal is to have circle-up discussions to explore what makes us unique as a school and how we can better help our students succeed. We really want students there to be part that time. Finally, in 1st period, we spend time reading silently and improving literacy skills.

Attendance Matters Contest:

In order to ensure student success and involvement in our school, we are making a special and ongoing contest for attendance. Starting Monday in 1st period, we will be starting with a special breakfast followed by advisory circles to get student feedback on the school. Any student in attendance 1st period will receive an entry for giveaways in addition to our special breakfast. Please help us get students to school by 8:15am Monday. Attendance contests and rewards will continue after Monday as well. More to come on that.

Automatic Attendance Messages:

As part of our ongoing effort to ensure every student's success, we want to remind everyone that we have implemented automatic attendance messages. These notifications are sent to guardians if a student is marked absent from any class. We thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to ensure every student's attendance is monitored, and they stay engaged in their studies. Please help us communicate to your students that attendance is expected in the classes they are enrolled in. We are here to help them make that happen or adjust schedules as needed.

Open House Reminder: August 9th, 5:30-7:00pm

As we settle into the rhythm of the school year, we want to remind everyone that our Open House event is just around the corner! On August 9th, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, we invite all students, guardians, and community members interested in learning more about our school to join us. It's an excellent opportunity to meet our dedicated staff, explore our facilities, and discover the unique educational programs we offer.

Whether you're already part of our school community or know someone who might be interested, we encourage you to spread the word about this event.

In conclusion, we are thrilled to witness the positive momentum that has set in during these initial weeks. Our school is not just a place of learning but also a platform for fostering collaboration and student participation. Let's continue to support each other and make this academic year the best one yet!

If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to reach out to us. We are here to support you and your child throughout this exciting journey.

Looking forward to an amazing year together!

Best regards,

Raj Solanki

Miguel Romero

December 2, 2024 Dear CPS Community, Miguel "Smalls" Romero It is with a heavy heart that I write to share the tragic news of the loss of one of our students, Miguel Romero. Miguel passed away on Friday, under circumstances that are deeply affecting our entire school community. The police are pursuing this as a homicide case. During this difficult time, our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Miguel’s family and loved ones. He is an important part of our school family, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. Miguel was always kind, supportive, and respectful to anyone he encountered. He has been a bright light at our school. To support our students and staff as they process this loss, counseling services are available at school. Our school counselor, Anais, will be on hand to provide care and guidance to anyone who needs it. If you feel your child would benefit from additional support, please encourage them to speak with Anais, another staff member they ...

Winter weather alert information

Hello CPS Community, That "snow day" time of year is here, so I wanted to make sure you are aware of our winter weather policy. Generally, we follow D11's call for school closures (d11.org/Weather). However, we reserve the right to make different calls as well. When a school closure for weather is called, we will send out a message as soon as possible in the morning through this message service as well as post it on our website, facebook, and instagram pages (communityprepschool.org, facebook.com/communityprepschool, instagram.com/commprep). As a reminder, we are a charter school, which means that we have a relationship with District 11, but are not a regular district school. For instance, we also have a different calendar than the district (communityprepschool.org/calendar). Therefore, please make sure if you receive information from the district regarding days off whether because of weather or calendar, you confirm with Community Prep School communication. With that sa...

Remote Days

Hello CPS Community.  We have used up all our snow days this year. If another snow day happens this school year, we will have a remote day.  The state allows us to have 5 remote days per year that won't count against our required 160 school days.  A remote day means that we will not be in the school building, but we will conduct school remotely through Google Meet links.  If a remote day is called, a student will be expected to call or video in to their advisor that day to counted present.  The links for each advisor can be found at the bottom of the page, here: https://sites.google.com/communityprepschool.org/cps-online
